Admission Process to the Graduate School and the Professional Program:


The application deadline for consideration for an interview is July 1. A decision to grant eligible applicants an interview will occur in August.

The minimum requirements are listed below.

• Current licensure as a registered nurse.
• Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related science.
• Cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0 and in all sciences.
• Eight semester credit hours in chemistry, one course in Inorganic chemistry and one course in organic and/or biochemistry, taken within the past 10 years of application.
• Four semester credits of Biology or Microbiology, taken within 10 years of application.
• Completion of General Graduate Record Examination (GRE) within 6 years of application with a combined minimum score of 300 in verbal and quantitative, and 3.5 on the analytical or written component.
• A minimum of ONE YEAR of full-time experience in an adult intensive care (SICU, MICU, CCU) unit within the past 2 years.
• Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
•  A minimum of one in-hospital shadow experience by July 1. The initial shadow day is arranged with the program by contacting Ms. Alfred at 313-745-3607 or via email at jalfred@dmc.org.
• Completion of at least ONE of the two graduate level prerequisites listed below  by August 31, with an earned grade of a minimum of B.
•  The prerequisites can be taken at Wayne State University or colleges/universities outside of Wayne State: Research Methods EER 7640, or equivalent, Statistics EER 7630 or equivalent. If you are applying to take the above pre-requisite(s) at Wayne, DO NOT complete the graduate school application.

Please complete the permit to register application and bring a hard copy along with proof of your bachelor degree to the Office of  Student and Alumni Affairs located at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 259 Mack Avenue, Suite 1600, Detroit, MI.  Office phhone is 313-577-1716.

(Note: The permit to register does not negate completion of the graduate school application which encompasses requirements for the professional program).

It is important that as many of the aforementioned prerequisites (undergraduate and graduate requirements) are met prior to choosing to complete the graduate school application. This will allow each applicant to more thoroughly answer questions on the application as well as ability to upload as many of the completed requirements requested on the graduate school application which will include the requirements for the professional program. The review of application is ongoing to provide applicants with feedback on the status of their application as well as additional information that might be needed to complete their file. Please activate your Wayne State University email account once you have
completed the Graduate Application so that you may receive notifications regarding  the status of your application.
