1. How many clinical sites do you have?
The program has 19 clinical sites which includes three sites in Toledo, Ohio. Students from Toledo, Ohio will complete most of their clinical experience in Toledo, Ohio.
2. What is the schools passing rate on the Certification Exam?
In the last five years all graduates have been successful on the qualifying examinations.
3. Can I spend a day observing a CRNA?
In order to understand the scope and dynamics of the practice of nurse anesthesia, it is a requirement to spend time observing a CRNA. This arrangement should be handled with the program.
4. Do I need a statement from the CRNA when I shadow to verify I spent the day with them?
A statement from the CRNA of the date, month and year that you spent observing can be included in the required section on your application.
5. From whom should I get references?
The required references are from your immediate supervisor and co¬-workers. Other references may be submitted but are not critical to your application completion.
6. Do you have a distance education component?
The program has established satellite communication with Kaiser Permante in California. Some classes are transmitted from California to the program. A few distant clinical sites are equipped for teleconference and students are able to participate with journal club presentations during clinical rotations.
7. Are all the clinical sites in the Detroit Area?
The program has clinical sites in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, in Toledo, Pigeon, Michigan and Jackson, Michigan. Each site has as a coordinator who works closely with the program to provide valuable experiences during rotation.
8. Should all prerequisites be completed prior to applying?
A minimum of ONE prerequisite needs to be completed to be eligible for an interview. It is important to update your file with additional accomplishments (e.g. certifications, prerequisites) prior to your interview.
9. Do I have to take the GRE before I apply?
Your application can be sent to the admissions office while you prepare to take the GRE. The scores are to be sent to the college prior to your interview. Your file will only be considered complete when ALL updates to your application are received by July 1 or before interview date in September.
10. What are the minimum acceptable GRE scores?
The minimum acceptable GRE scores is 800 combined qualitative and quantitative and 3.5 in the writing part.
11. What types of critical care units are acceptable?
Applicants must be full time in a surgical, CCU, or MICU.
12. Are applications accepted prior to the due date?
Applicants are encouraged to send their applications earlier than the due date in July. Early submission of application will provide each applicant with feedback on their application.
