Eugene Applebaum - College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

A Message from the Dean

Lloyd Y. YoungWelcome to the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS). The faculty, staff, students and I are pleased to learn of your interest in our College. We invite you to take a few minutes to browse through our Web site and become familiar with the 13 health science disciplines that our College offers to prepare tomorrow’s healthcare professionals.

As one of 13 colleges and schools of Wayne State University (WSU), the only urban research university in Michigan, many of our EACPHS faculty have national and international reputations in research. They challenge our students to think beyond today’s practices and contribute to new healthcare delivery systems and treatments.

Academically, we have an outstanding student population who work hard to achieve their professional goals under the guidance of talented, productive and dedicated faculty and staff. Our students’ learning environment extends beyond the classroom into a variety of clinical sites, such as hospitals, and in the community reaching out to help the underserved. Their experiences here at EACPHS well position them in their respective healthcare fields to respond effectively in a fast changing healthcare system.

Our college is located on two campuses. Pharmacy and the health sciences are housed in a 270,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building on the southwest corner of the Detroit Medical Center. This puts us in the immediate vicinity to take academic advantage of some of the best hospitals and healthcare professionals in the United States.

North a few blocks and within walking distance is the WSU main campus where our Mortuary Science building is located. It is in this 44,000-square-foot building that the applied sciences of Mortuary Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Anatomic Pathologists’ Assistant programs share the most advanced teaching and research resources. While divided by location, we are one in providing quality education and opportunities for our students.

Our college is truly an exciting institution in which to work, learn, and teach. It is an institution of higher education that is continually challenging tomorrow’s health science professional to achieve excellence beyond the classroom and into the real world.
