Note: Students from Ontario, Canada, and Williams, Fulton, Lucas, & Ottawa Counties in Ohio can attend WSU at resident tuition rates. Students from Ontario and Ohio may not displace qualified applicants who are Michigan residents.

Is financial aid available?
The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid
(OSFA) helps students meet their educational expenses. These expenses include tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board and transportation. Some support is available.
The majority of graduate students are in full-time employment in the local community. However, some graduate teaching assistantships that provide a stipend and tuition for the two semesters of the academic year, are available to qualified full-time students. Graduate research assistantships are also sometimes available. National scholarships sponsored by the
American Industrial Hygiene Foundation are also available.

Within the Department of OEHS, competitive awards of variable amounts are available to assist with tuition costs that include the David Thornton Memorial Scholarship. Contact Mrs.

From I-75 North

Exit at Mack Avenue and take right on Mack Avenue. Turn at the third traffic light (John R. Street). The College is on the corner of Mack Avenue and John R St.

From I-75 South

From I-94

Where can I park?
Parking: is available in the lot opposite the College (not designated on the map) on the corner of John R and Mack,
see map. As soon as you have registered for classes, you should get your ONE Card. This card will serve to let you into parking facilities. You can also take a ticket, but the cost may be higher.

What courses are required as prerequisites to this masters program?
Applicants to the industrial hygiene and industrial toxicology specializations will require the following WSU courses or equivalent courses offered at accredited colleges or universities.

What are the English Proficiency Requirements?
Graduate applicants who graduated from colleges/universities in other countries must demonstrate proficiency in English. To fulfill this requirement an applicant must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1) Complete baccalaureate degree requirements at an accredited U.S. institution or at an institution where English is the medium of instruction.
2) Present an acceptable score on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).
3) Present an acceptable score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

The MELAB examination is administered every two weeks in Ann Arbor by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan.

Do I need to take the Graduate Record Examination?
Graduate Record Examination (GRE): is required of all applicants except in unusual cases where an applicant has substantial prior experience in medicine, occupational and environmental health sciences, or industrial hygiene at a senior level of responsibility. Applicants who complete the GRE will be expected to achieve a combined score of at least 1,000 on the verbal and analytical portions of the GRE (see Appendix).

The administration of the paper-and-pencil tests are in the months of April, October and December. Computer-based testing is held three times a week at sites in Utica, Troy and Livonia.

What are the deadlines for entry into the program?
Applications should be received at the
Graduate School no later than June 1st to ensure processing before the start of the Fall Semester. Since many of the courses require the fall semester "Introduction to Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology" (OEH 7010) or "Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences" (OEH 7060) courses as a prerequisite, entry to all M.S. degree specializations offered by the department is in the fall semester. However, depending on previous academic background and work experience, applicants may begin by taking certain elective courses in the winter and spring/summer semesters.
