Biography
Susan M. Koziatek MS, OTR is a part-time instructor in the occupational therapy program. She specializes in pediatrics and child development. She received her bachelor and master of science degrees in occupational therapy from Wayne State University. She currently works as a school-based occupational therapist for the Department of Special Education Support and Related Services of the Macomb Intermediate School District, providing services to students aged 3 to 12 in Macomb County schools. She also enjoys supervising occupational therapy students and has supervised over 60 level 1 and 2 fieldwork students over her career. She began her career at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in 1982 andwhile thereworked with adolescents and adults with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation and chronic pain. She also brings experience and skills in home and job site evaluations, powered mobility and environmental control units, hand therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and oncology. She has published two articles in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (2002 and 2003) related to her research on children’s handwriting.

Education Training

Ms. Koziatek graduated from Wayne State's school of Occupational Therapy with a Bachelor of Science in May 1982 and with a Master's Of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in December 2000.    She worked in Perth, Scotland at the Perth Royal Infirmary for fieldwork leading to her Master's Degree in 1999.  She has taken many continuing education courses specializing in pediatrics, school therapy, hand therapy, neuro rehabilitation and interventions for autism.

 


Positions and Employment

Ms. Koziatek is currently a staff occupational therapist for the department of Support and Related Services of the Macomb Intermediate School District.  She has been a school therapist since September 1990.  She enjoys working with children.  She also held various positions in the school therapy organization

Ms. Koziatek is a member of WFOT, AOTA, MiOTA, MASPOT and MOST.


Awards and Honors

Recieved a Merit Scholarship for undergraduate studies from Wayne State University.  Recieved a Barbara J Henderson award during graduate school.  Recieved an honorary award from the MIchigan Alliance for school physical and occupational therapists from MASPOT and a part-time teacher award for teaching excellence from the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences fall 2006.


Personal Interests

Ms. Koziatek enjoys traveling, painting, drawing, crafts, running, kayaking, hiking and swimming in her spare time.

8:30 t0 10:30 pm Wednesday evenings during winter semester.
