Continuing Education
The Department of Pharmacy Practice organizes continuing education seminars for pharmacists in southeastern Michigan through a partnership with the Michigan Pharmacists Association.
The 3rd annual Pharmacy Fall symposium "Antimicrobial Treatment of Infectious Diseases: Optimizing therapy in Clinical Practice" was held on September 14, 2007. This full-day symposium was attended by close to 200 pharmacists and included seven lectures on topics ranging from bacterial resistance to advances in HIV management to current guidelines for treatment of pneumonia.
In May 2007, the Spring Symposium focused on "Practice Issues in Diabetes Management and Screening". Dr. Bill Hermann presented an overview of the epidemiology and screening of diabetes and pre-diabetes, Dr. Linda Jaber discussed strategies for managing Type 2 diabetes and Dr. Magaly Rodrigues de Bittner covered implementation of screening programs in practice settings.
In addition to continuing education events for practicing pharmacists, a number of CE programs have been organized in recent years to assist the development of Wayne State University preceptors.
