Recent Grants

"Feasibility of Diabetes Prevention in Arab Americans", Linda Jaber, PI, $239,357
1R34DK076663-01A, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases

Previous studies have demonstrated that lifestyle interventions can delay or prevent the development of type 2 diabetes in high-risk persons with IGT.  However, there may be barriers to implementing these interventions in this culturally unique community.  The objective of this planning grant is to demonstrate the feasibility of a community-based, culturally specific lifestyle intervention for diabetes prevention.

"Rapid Testing Procedure for detecting Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus", Michael Rybak, PI, $152, 264
3M Corporation

Traditional culture methods take several days before the results are available.  This study will evaluate the accuracy of a rapid testing procedure which can provide results within five hours.  This investigation will compare the 3M BacLite Rapid MRSA test to traditional methods.
