Admission Requirements

  • Minimum of 3.0 cumulative and science GPA and no less than a “C” (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in all prerequisites. All science coursework must be completed within six years of the time of admission to the professional program.
  • Interview (you will be notified upon review of your application)
  • Pre-professional coursework taken at an accredited college or university is acceptable.
  • All pre-requisite and University General Education requirements must be completed before entering the professional program.
  • A minimum of 90 credit hours

Pre-requisite coursework

Science Prerequisites - must be completed by end of Fall term (December) of year prior to term you are applying for.

  • BIO 1510 Basic Life Mechanisms
  • BIO 2870 Anatomy and Physiology
  • BIO 3200 or BIO 4120 Physiology (BIO 3200 preferred)
  • CHM 1220/1230 Principles of Chemistry I & Lab*
  • CHM 1240/1250 Organic Chemistry I & Lab*
  • PHY 2130/2131 General Physics I & Lab
  • PHY 2140/2141 General Physics II & Lab
  • MAT 1800 Elementary Functions

*Applicants need two semesters of chemistry; inorganic and organic or biochemistry are recommended.

Non-Science Prerequisites - must be completed by end of Winter term (May) of year you are applying for.

  • ENG 1020 Introduction to College Writing (BC)
  • ENG 3050 Technical Writing (preferred) or ENG 3010 (IC)
  • PSY 1010 or 1020 Introductory Psychology
  • PSY 2400 Developmental Psychology
  • PSY 3010 Statistical Methods in Psychology
  • KIN 3570 Physiology of Exercise
  • Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification or HEA 2330

A minimum of 6 additonal credits in upper division (3000 level or above) concentrated in one of the following areas: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Psychology

In addition to the prerequisite coursework students who do not have a bachelor degree must complete the University General Education requirements prior to admission to the professional program. Refer to the Wayne State University Undergraduate Bulletin.
