Physical Therapy Mission Statement

 

The faculty of the Physical Therapy Program at Wayne State University believe that learning, scholarship, research and community service are driven by the Mission Statements of the University , College and the Physical Therapy Program.
 
The mission of the Physical Therapy Program at Wayne State University is to advance the practice of physical therapy through the provision of high quality professional physical therapy education, research and service to the community, taking advantage of the unique opportunities and responsibilities provided by our location in a diverse urban setting.

As a member of the Wayne State academic medical community, we are committed to engage in research to discover, evaluate and implement new knowledge to improve physical therapy practice and healthcare services at the local, state, national and international levels. We strive to utilize the urban community of metropolitan Detroit to provide a rich experience for students and wealth of interdisciplinary opportunities.

The program endeavors to develop compassionate, reflective practitioners who are skilled at the art and science of physical therapy practice and who serve successfully in the current and ever-evolving health care environment.
  
We fulfill our mission by:
Preparing graduates to provide physical therapy services effectively and efficiently while respecting individual differences.

• Encouraging students, graduates and faculty to perform as reflective professionals who are critical thinkers and adept at identifying and solving problems.

• Providing a depth and breadth of educational and scholarly opportunities for students, faculty and the community.

• Facilitating commitment to active lifelong learning as an educational foundation for professional growth and development.

• Promoting and modeling high professional standards and professional behaviors encouraging compassion, caring, integrity, altruism, responsibility, professional duty and excellence.
